Moses Schanfield Young Investigator Award (MSYIA)

Moses Samuel Schanfield (September 7, 1944–January 7, 2021), a pioneer of DNA technology in applied biology and the co-founder and co-director of ISABS Conferences. Together with professor Dragan Primorac, Professor Schanfield was the founder and driving force of the ISABS conference series, later soon joined by professor Stanimir Vuk-Pavlović.

Striving for the success of this conference and continuing the series into the future is the most fitting tribute to Professor Schanfield’s contribution to science, its dissemination, and the faithful friendship that is sorely missed.

The ISABS conference in 2022 is the first without Professor Schanfield, and on the first anniversary of the passing of Professor Moses Schanfield, his colleagues, friends, and daughter shared their memories of the beloved friend, colleague, and father. Click here to read more.

In recognition of Professor Schanfield, the Young Investigator Award carries his name.

Knowing the importance of including young researchers as active participants of the conference, ISABS encourages Ph.D. and graduate students working toward a degree in the fields related to the conference program themes, as well as postdoctoral researchers, to join the conference and apply for Moses Schanfield Young Investigator Award (MSYIA). Therefore, for each ISABS conference, MSYIA is presented for outstanding research by investigators under thirty-five years old. The Scientific Advisory Committee of the conference selects finalists from nominees who submit abstracts. Besides the attractive prize of 500 EUR, each award recipient is given the opportunity for a podium presentation. The author (s) of each selected abstract also receive the Moses Schanfield Young Investigator Award Certificate.

Authors wishing to be considered for the MSYIA should complete the appropriate box during online abstract submission. Results of reviewed MSYIA applications will be available by the end of April.

Recipients of the Moses Schanfield Young Investigator Award will be notified by e-mail and will be listed.
